About Last Night | Led Zephyr Launch in Pictures

We think it’s fair to say that last night went off without a hitch. Great crowd, even greater clothes, grins all round and trees too… of course! Before we inundate your brain space with photos we wanted to thank a few people for their help. A list? If you insist:
- Chester, Trent and Matty deserve a super high-five for their bodacious drink serving/door attending skills. Could there be three friendlier guys?
- Andy for his rocking playlist; it was music to our ears, literally.
- Adrien for his epic chore running session and do-this-do-that onslaught.
- Clea, Ricky and Alex for their super efficient beer removal skills.
- Grolsch, Austin Wines and our friends at Hunter (it was lovely to finally meet you Jade!) for the drinks aplenty.
- Jamie for being the worlds most efficient/awesome photographer (he sent us through the images at 2:52am)! But we’ve been too hung dog to post them… until now!
- And of course Zephyr for her stunning collection and fierce design skills to boot! And those trees!
Shall we do it? Yes. Let’s.

This guy was wearing the most insanely awesome outfit. It was as if he came straight from the Tim Burton Exhibition… but as a part of the exhibition that had come alive!

Behind the harness was a leash; this was to ensure she didn’t go mental and steal all the amazing Led Zephyr shoes. Here’s why:

Can you blame us for the extra precautions? Wedges of glory. And yes, the lace goes through the base.

Vlad, self proclaimed “lazy blogger” is in a state of fashion shock (pictured above). After this image was taken he began chasing Zephyr around the room begging her for the entire collection. Calm down Vlad!

Look at all this wonderful colour! We’re sending a big shout out to y’all fashion rebels! Wear the rainbow!

Droopy, pleated, layered goodness. We like.

Celeb in the making? We think so. She just needs to work on her hand to face action: no photos please, even though I look radtastic!

Pretty much have to say this is our favourite bag ever. That is all.
Yours,
Comeback Kid
Comeback Kid Presents | Led Zephyr Dreamer Collection Launch Party

Because there are 500 other parties tomorrow night (is this the most hipster night in Melbourne’s proud history?) we’ve listed the reasons why you should and shouldn’t come to ours:
SHOULD
Well, we don’t want to give too much away but the STORE IS ALIVE. Seriously. People. Some links that serve as clues. ONE. TWO. THREE.
SHOULDN’T
You need to get up a set of stairs to see the awesomeness and that’s tiring.
SHOULD
Good music. Plenty of THIS. And THAT. And fashion. Women’s fashion too.
SHOULDN’T
If you’re severely allergic to greenery then I’d say no.
SHOULD
It’s Melbourne Spring Fashion Week people (despite the not-so-spring weather outside) and you haven’t left your house since May so pull up your socks and come boogie!
But in all seriousness, Zephyr’s collection is stunning and fresh and the perfect way for Melbournians to do summer. Not too bright, easy to mix ‘n’ match into any wardrobe and perfect for the changing seasons.
Led Zephyr’s women’s pieces are available at both Lenko and Phillips. All the menswear apparel and shoes are available with us, at Comeback Kid.

Hear Me Now | The Stones Are Rolling

This is a snapshot of the inside cover… but the original front cover* was initially released as a three dimensional picture ie. hologram.
On Saturday, one third of Comeback Kid (that’s me!) was lucky enough to embark on a brief road trip out to the You Yangs to play on the rocks and marvel at the view. I was in charge of the decks (so to speak) so I hit play on The Rolling Stones album Their Satanic Majesties Request expecting the usual saxophone, sexed up, rock ‘n’ roll goodness that I’ve come to love them for. Lo and behold but the sound that met my ear drums wasn’t quite what I was expecting. Psychedelic, eclectic, harmonic 1960s goodness was washing past me as I turned to my co-pilot to find out what was going on. “It was their answer to The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper”. As I re-tuned my inner ear to this “new” sound I suddenly realised that indeed this might be the case.
Released in December of 1967 six months after The Beatles released Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band it clearly has similar intentions to (and possibly a lot of inspiration from) The Beatles masterpiece. It’s often viewed in a negative light amongst critics, in particular when compared to the Stones other work and yet, there’s some kind of undeniable charm to this slightly wacky release. More to the point facets of it don’t sound dissimilar to the Indie music that we’re shim shamming to today. Pen and paper ready? Let’s break it down:
Sing This All Together
A joyful, upbeat chorus of happiness; yes, that’s my review for this track. Not dissimilar to what the Polyphonic Spree touched on decades later (or to All You Need Is Love for that matter) this opening track curiously features backing vocals from The Beatles themselves. I guess the Stones weren’t known for subtlety.
Citadel
Just gonna throw this out there: if Eddy Current Suppression Ring and Tame Impala joined forces it would sound like Citadel. And I think that’s a fair force to be reckoned with. There’s almost something punk like about this track… almost. Off beat, somewhat hard to get your head around and yet very addictive. Track Two gets two thumbs up.
Sing This All Together (See What Happens)
Ah! The joys of a reprise. Like the opening track of Sgt. Peppers was given, the Stones have handed their opening track a reprise too. Eclectic, nonsensical but definitely fun I wonder if Akron/Family were inspired by this cacophony? Just speculating y’all.
She’s A Rainbow
This would’ve been the track that made their record company sigh with relief, “Phew. There is a commercial single.” It reached #25 in the U.S. (the highest position for any track from this album) and has probably become more popular with time thanks to featuring prominently on numerous “Greatest Hits” releases. Charming, hypnotic and bound to ’cause some dancing we suggest that this is the perfect entry point for this obscure album if you’re still not convinced.
On With The Show
I just love that the final track on the album was given this title. It’s as if they’re declaring, “Well, we’ve done some whack shit to show you that what The Beatles did wasn’t that hard and we promise we’ll get back on track for the next album”.
Super Request,
Comeback Kid
*Take a peak at THIS LINK of the front cover: can you see the four Beatles hiding in the flowers? Was the joke on us with Their Satanic Majesties Request? I think so. But joke or not, I still like the album all the same! In a way…

Comeback Kid Presents | An Introduction to Led Zephyr

Oh Jamie wears Led Zephyr*
It is with so much excitement (a touch of giddiness and a facet of HELLS YES!) that we introduce our newest label into the fold: Led Zephyr. Designer Zephyr Marama (who gained experience working at the iconic Australian label Material Boy) creates wearable but directional fashion that could easily slip into any wardrobe. Using warm colours inspired by the great outdoors (sky blue and ocean green to name a few) lots of very clever paneling and some quite surprising touches her garments and shoes are eye catching without being too obvious. Some examples? Take the Mercury Boot (pictured above) where excess leather is attached to create the illusion of wings. Or the shape tails tee; rope is threaded through the base of the hem to create a bold silhouette. She also confidently mixes fabrics (raw silk epaulets add edge to a not-so-basic cotton tee) and unexpected materials (wire runs through one top to create shape and movement) whilst ensuring each piece can look awesome with only a simple pair of jeans. But above all her styles are affordable; no bank robbing needs to go down to access these looks.
Led Zephyr is available at Comeback Kid* today and we’re having a collection launch party this Thursday from 6 to 8pm in store as part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week!
Yours,
Comeback Kid
*Seriously people, it was kind of pathetic but he came into the store one day and started crying, pulling on his hair and tugging at our arms begging for first dibs of the Led Zephyr pieces. It was such a performance that we ultimately crumbled, handed him a tissue and walked him quietly into the store room for some retail therapy.
**And by “Comeback Kid” we mean new and improved store. Seriously y’all, it’s been revamped in here for summer and is looking smoking if we do say so ourselves… which we did…
